Celebrating Valentine’s Day with the Whole Family

Now that you’re a family, Valentine’s Day doesn’t quite look like what it used to. Here are a few fun ideas for celebrating before you all fall asleep at 8:30.

Bake Valentine’s Day-themed after-preschool treats. This can be as simple as adding a little pink icing to a cupcake mix or as indulgent as Martha Stewart’s recipe for heart-shaped brownies and brownie bites, which little hands will love to roll.

Dress up your littlest sweetheart in a red tutu (we have them in store), take photos and send virtual Valentines to far-away family.

Pop some popcorn (you can even make it red), grab the family and curl up on the couch for a movie night. If you’d like something comfy to sit on, it doesn’t get any cozier than these bean bag chairs.

Book a babysitter (if you can get one!) and head out for the night, just mom and dad. If mom’s still nursing, we have breast pumps in store.

And if you’re still looking for a gift for dad – Baby’s World is offering free delivery within Greater Vancouver on nursery furniture ordered before February 14th.

Happy, healthy eaters

Every new year we resolve to eat our greens. But healthy eating is even more important for your wee one. Luckily, these Baby’s World products make whipping up healthy homemade baby food as easy as (pureed) pie.

Baby Delice $159.99
Is there nothing this can’t do? The Baby Delice cooks and steams chopped fruit vegetables, meat and fish. It’ll even blend them too. But that’s not all, it can warm jars, sterilize bottles and even defrost baby food. If only it did the dishes, too…

The Wean Machine $27.99
Simply brilliant, the Wean Machine lets you mash fruit and cooked veggies and serve it straight out of the gadget. It’s compact so it fits perfectly in your diaper bag.

Baby Cubes $6.99
End up making enough baby food to feed the whole family? (Now that would be a memorable meal time!) Store extra meals in these stackable freezer trays by Baby Cubes. Available in three sizes, each cube pops out to defrost one meal-sized portion at a time.

The Food Mill $12.99
Grind and go with the Deluxe Food Mill. Its snap-on lid makes it easy to take with you when you’re hopping from Mommy ‘n Me to baby yoga to sign language class.
Looking for recipe ideas? Here’s a list of five healthy baby food recipes so good, we’re tempted to try them ourselves.

Baby’s World Gift Cards

What does a new parent need this holiday? Well, sleep would be nice. But a new parent’s wish list is also filled with plenty of must-haves like carriers and car seats, blankets and Baby Bjorns, plus a host of gadgets and trinkets that will make their lives easier. All of which we carry at Baby’s World.

If you’re not quite sure which baby food freeze tray or which stroller add-on they’re looking for, give them Baby’s World gift cards. They’re the perfect size, the perfect colour and they’re available in any amount. Pick them up in store at Baby’s World.

New at Baby’s World: Bean Bag Chairs!

Get comfy with these high quality bean bag chairs, brand new at Baby’s World! Great for ages three and up, they’re family-friendly furniture at its finest: they’re shaped like a tear drop so the foam pellets can be formed to offer back support for mom and dad, and their covers are made of washable material that can be zipped off easily in case of a spill.

They come in three sizes, small ($139.99), medium ($199.99) and large ($249.99) so you’ll find one that’s just right (Goldilocks would approve!). And they’re available in three colours too: blue for his room, pink for her room and black for the family room.

Plus, they’d be fun to wrap up and put under the Christmas tree!

Gifts for the new mom and mom-to-be

She’s made her shopping list and checked it twice. But what does the new or expectant mom want for herself this holiday? We’ve compiled a few of our favourite gifts for the new mom and mom-to-be. Even if the number one thing on her wish list is a good night’s sleep.

Musical Pregnancy Pendant $35.99
Nothing accessorizes mom’s bump quite like a musical pendant. The necklace hangs low on her belly so it chimes gently as she moves, a sound that baby can hear as early as 20 weeks. If she wears it often during her pregnancy, its sound can help soothe baby after birth too. At Baby’s World, we carry these pendants in many colours and styles.

Nursing lingerie $49.99
Once upon a time nursing bras were plain and boring. Those days are gone. You! Lingerie makes beautiful, stylish bras that look nothing like the nursing bras of old. In bright colours with soft lining and pretty lace accents, they make a great gift for a new mom. Available at Baby’s World in many colours and styles.

Teensy Teether Amber Anklets $19.99
Technically, it’s a gift for baby. But a happy teether makes a happy mom so these Baltic amber anklets make our holiday wish list. The theory is this: amber naturally reduces the acidity levels in a baby’s body, which helps soothe the little one during teething. Spoil mom with some matching amber jewelry too.

PJ’ZZZZ for you and your tot

Sleep sets $35.99

Shorter days mean longer nights. And longer nights are the perfect excuse to get cozy. Really, really cozy. PJ’ZZZZ sleep sets are made in the most adorable prints and they’re designed by a local mom. This sleepwear doesn’t just look good, it feels good too. Each piece is made of natural materials, which means no itchy polyester.

Baby’s World has styles she’ll love (kittens galore!), styles he’ll love (cowboys head-to-toe!) and styles you’ll love. It’s true! We carry them in adult sizes so mom and tot can be cozy and coordinated at the same time. Sunday nights curled up by the fireplace just got a lot more stylish!

Halloween costumes from their closets

Since the line between costume and closet has blurred (if it were up to him, he’d wear a Spiderman outfit every day), we’ve picked a few of our favourite everyday pieces that would make great Halloween getups too.

Captain (jacket $49.99)
It’ll be at least a decade before he’s asking to borrow your boat, but your little water baby can look ocean-ready now. Pair this jacket with a sailor’s hat, khaki pants and boat shoes for Halloween. Then, keep it for special occasions afterward.

Fairy Princess (dress $75.99)
On October 31st she’ll be a fairy princess with sparkly shoes to match her sparkly dress. Then she can wear the same look for birthdays, holiday parties and, if she gets her way, preschool on a Tuesday too.

Bear (coat $68.99)
Grrr… With brown pants and shoes, he’ll be a fierce-looking bear on Halloween. Then, come November, it’ll be nonstop bear hugs in this coat, which is cozy enough to hibernate in.

Three Great Mommy Blogs to Share

There are two things that parenthood gives a person: patience and stories. Being a good blogger requires both, so it’s no wonder that many parents, first time or not, decide to share their lives online for the sake of fellow moms and dads. The Lower Mainland is host to many fantastic mommy (and some daddy!) bloggers. Here are three great local mommy blogs to start you off.

Vancouver Mom

Basics: The grandmammy of Lower Mainland mommy blogs is actually an online magazine. With thorough listings of local kid-friendly eateries, events, and venues, this is one of the most comprehensive parenting sites imaginable.

Why We Love It: Christine Pilkington has fourteen years experience in the digital field, and it shows. The organization is impeccable, with equal attention being paid to both mothers and their children. Updates are every five days, which can seem infrequent if used to a singular blogger’s constant stream, but the quality is beyond reproach. The podcasts are a standout.

Why You’ll Love It: The directories. Need the name of a formal, but still family-friendly restaurant? A child actor’s workshop? An indoor beach centre? The Lower Mainland has been thoroughly explored for the best possible finds—with listings in Maple Ridge and Port Moody, this is one party that everyone’s invited to.

Notable Entry: Best Family-Friendly Places to Explore the Arts: Other Cool Places
Any Lower Mainland-based parenting site would encourage moms and dads to take their kid to the theatre. But Vancouver Mom’s dedication to finding the coolest places means that they think outside the box– and the bridges of the downtown core. From the Vancouver Police Museum to Coquitlam’s Place des Arts to Deer Lake Park, this post demonstrates Vancouver Mom’s all-encompassing approach.
